Reading & access¶
Do I need an account to read or download? No. Reading and downloading are open to everyone — no account required. You only need an account to submit, review, or administer. See For readers.
Is the content permanent? Yes — every published item gets permanent identifiers (a DOI and an ARK) that keep working even if links change. See DOIs & ARKs explained.
Can I see how many times an item has been read or downloaded? Yes — open an item and click Statistics, or use Statistics in the top menu for the whole repository. See Usage statistics.
How do I find out when new work is added? Follow a collection by its RSS feed (no account), or subscribe by email when logged in. See Stay updated: feeds & subscriptions.
Depositing¶
I have an account — why can't I submit? Registering doesn't grant submit rights. The RIC must add you to a group that can deposit. See Before you start and Contact & support.
Is submitting the same as publishing? No. A submission enters a review queue; a RIC reviewer must accept it before it goes public. See After you submit.
How long does review take? It depends on the RIC's queue. If your item has been waiting a long time, a polite note to the RIC is fine.
Can I deposit a paper already published in a journal? Often yes — but usually the author's Accepted Manuscript, not the publisher's PDF, and the repository reuses the publisher's DOI rather than minting a new one. See The copyright gate.
Can I edit an item after it's published? Corrections are possible through an administrator/reviewer. Note that edits made in the panel reach Crossref only on the nightly resync. See Identifiers (DOI & ARK) and Manage items.
Can I keep my file closed for now (an embargo)? Yes — set an embargo on the file when you deposit, and it opens automatically on the date you choose. The record stays public meanwhile. See Embargo & access conditions.
Account¶
How do I change my password or my details? Open your profile (person icon, top-right) to update your name, telephone, language, or password. Can't sign in at all? Use Forgot your password? on the login page instead.
Identifiers¶
What's the difference between a DOI and an ARK? A DOI is registered through Crossref and is the primary, cited identifier; an ARK is one the University issues and resolves itself, used as a durable fallback. Both are permanent. See DOIs & ARKs explained.
When is an item's DOI created? At approval — when a reviewer accepts the item, not when it's submitted. See Identifiers (DOI & ARK).
Reviewing & administration¶
Who approves submissions? RIC reviewers, at the final approval step on academic collections. See The approval workflow.
Why is registration open to anyone? Because signing up grants no power to publish — the submit and approval gates control that. See Users & groups.
How does my work get into Google Scholar? Automatically. Once an item is public it's exposed to Google, Google Scholar, BASE, and CORE, and harvested over OAI-PMH. Good metadata helps it rank. See Harvesting & search-engine indexing.
