Glossary¶
Plain-language definitions of the terms used in this guide.
Repository — the online archive of Amoud University's research and scholarly output, at repository.amoud.edu.so.
Community — a top-level grouping of content, usually a faculty or college. A community can contain sub-communities and collections.
Sub-community — a community nested inside another (for example, a school or department within a faculty).
Collection — the container that actually holds items, inside a community or sub-community (for example, a department's theses).
Item — a single deposited work: its metadata plus its file(s).
Metadata — the descriptive details of an item (title, authors, date, abstract, and so on) that make it findable and citable.
Dublin Core — the standard set of metadata fields DSpace uses by default.
local.* fields — Amoud-specific metadata fields added on top of Dublin Core (college,
school, version type, SDG alignment, embargo, access rights).
DOI (Digital Object Identifier) — a permanent, citable identifier registered through
Crossref. AU-IR's prefix is 10.67178. The primary identifier for published items.

ARK (Archival Resource Key) — a permanent identifier the University issues and resolves
itself (no central agency), used as the always-on fallback. AU-IR's prefix (NAAN) is
53360.
Crossref — the registration agency through which AU-IR mints DOIs.
MyDSpace — your personal area after logging in: your submissions, your review tasks, and your profile.
EPerson — DSpace's term for a user account.
Group — a set of accounts that share permissions (for example, RIC_Administrator or
Pilot_Submitters).
Workflow — the review steps a submitted item passes through before it's published.
Deposit licence — the agreement a depositor accepts, granting the repository the right to store and display the work.
Accepted Manuscript — the author's final, peer-reviewed version of a paper, before the publisher's typesetting. Usually shareable.
Version of Record — the publisher's formatted, published PDF. Usually not shareable.
Embargo — a period during which an item's file stays closed (the record is public, the full text unlocks on a set date).
SAF (Simple Archive Format) — DSpace's bulk-import format, used to load many items at once (such as the thesis pilot). See Bulk import (SAF).
OAI-PMH — the protocol that lets other services (search engines, aggregators like BASE) harvest the repository's records.
